This arrangement of a block of figures, positioned by the photographer as to form a mass of what would be in 1860, natural animated moving officers set still as nature in from to the still Georgian architectural facade of the barrack building. The focus of the photographer is the contrast between the two, the cubic windows and geometric backdrop is contrasted it’s the Bearskin Hats of the Queens Coldstream Guards.
This study is part of a series of photographs Fenton could have taken late in his career in whilst living London, as a mature artist the London Series achieves some of his most Dreamlike explorations of architecture of the City.
I will be bringing to the fair, together with a series of three prints of Regimental Officers outside the Tower of London.
